Platform provider is a term used to describe a NDIS provider that uses a profile-based platform to connect participants with workers to deliver NDIS supports, for example an app or website where participants and workers create a ‘profile’. Platform providers may be registered or unregistered NDIS providers.

Research and investigations

In 2019, the NDIS Commission engaged the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) to provide a report about the rates of death among people with disability and the causes of those deaths. The best available data was for people who had used disability services in Australia between 2013 and 2018.

The purpose of this Inquiry is to better understand how services accessed through platform providers support people with disability to exercise choice and control and facilitate the delivery of quality NDIS funded services. 

This inquiry looked at things that happened at 7 big, supported accommodation providers.

In 2023 the Hon.Jennifer Boland AM was appointed to conduct an independent review into the NDIS Commissions regulation of Irabina Autism Services (Irabina). The review included reportable incidents, complaints, restrictive practices and prohibited practices. 

We want to improve home and living supports in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).  In 2021, we looked at issues in supported accommodation.

The purpose of this Inquiry was to examine how Platform Providers operate in the NDIS market.
